Giveaway: The Last Treasure Hunt

LTH-gifI’m taking part in this rather different and fun giveaway for a signed copy of The Last Treasure Hunt. It’s not a case of just adding your name on a list but a treasure hunt! I’m revealing clue number 12 (if you already know how this works clink the link to jump to the clue)

Here’s how it works…

  • Each clue refers to a landmark or iconic location in a film. The landmark/location is the answer – when you figure it out, make a note of it!
  • (If you need a hand, check out the #treasurehunt hashtag on Twitter or Instagram for a hint to the landmark’s location…)
  • When all the clues are revealed, the first letter of every answer will make an anagram. Solve the anagram and you have your final answer!
  • Email this answer and all the landmarks you figured out to hermes@saraband.net by April 30th to be entered into the prize draw. Two entrants will win a signed copy of The Last Treasure Hunt – and if you’ve guessed the most landmarks and locations, you’ll win a goodie bag and something special from Jane personally! On top of that you’ll get bragging rights on Twitter and we’ll publicly dub you queen/king sleuth.

So on to the clue

Clue 12

There’s no way out of here alive

But three desperate men

Found a way to set sail –

And were never seen again.

About the Book

LTH_cover_sAt the age of thirty, Campbell Johnstone is a failure. He’s stuck behind the bar of a shabby pub, watching from the sidelines while everyone else makes a success of their lives. The most visible is Eve Sadler, a childhood friend and rising Hollywood star.

When Campbell tries to rekindle their relationship, he longs for the glitter of her success to rub off on him, but a single shocking night – the novel’s shattering twist delivered with a knockout punch – changes everything. Campbell is about to discover the bittersweet taste of fame, and in the process, struggle to save his soul and overcome his own self-delusion.

The Last Treasure Hunt explores our obsession with fame and celebrity with great intelligence and sly wit – it’s a modern media morality tale with bite.

Literary Giveaway Hop 8-12th February

I always love The Literary Blog Hop, hosted by Judith @ Leeswammes

The idea behind the hop is to giveaway a literary book, so no YA or chick-lit here.

As this one falls over my birthday I’m going to do what I did last year, and make a list of books to choose from which I have read, and loved, published each year from the year I was born (1987) to last year. The winner can pick any book from this list. Where possible I have linked to reviews of these books (in bold), if I haven’t reviewed them then I link to amazon.

You don’t have to follow me to win (although it’s nice if you want to). And anyone can enter so long as The Book Depository ships free to your county. Just fill in the form below the list.

1987- Norwegian Wood- Haruki Murakami

1988- Matilda- Roald Dahl

1989- Like Water For Chocolate- Laura Esquivel

1990- The War of Don Emmanuel’s Nether Parts- Louis de Berniéres

1991- The Liar- Stephen Fry

1992- Mostly Harmless- Douglas Adams (or choose another book in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series)

1993- The Virgin Suicides- Jeffrey Eugenides

1994- Handle With Care- Jodi Picoult

1995- High Fidelity- Nick Hornby

1996- The Beach- Alex Garland

1997- Penguin Lost- Andrey Kurkov

1998- Big Fish- Daniel Wallace

1999- Waiting- Ha Jin

2000- Q&A (Slumdog Millionaire)- Vikas Swarup

2001- Life of Pi- Yann Martel

2002- Everything is Illuminated- Johnathan Safron Foer

2003- The Time Traveller’s Wife- Audrey Niffeneger

2004- Pop Co.- Scarlett Thomas

2005-  A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian- Marina Lewychka

2006- The Elegance of the Hedgehog- Murial Barbery

2007- The House at Riverton- Kate Morton

2008- Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet- Jamie Ford

2009- Shades of Grey- Jasper Fforde

2010- The Swan Thieves- Elizabeth Kostova

2011- The Lover’s Dictionary- Daniel Levithan

2012- Peaches for Monsieur le Curé- Joanne Harris (or any previous book in the Chocolat series)

2013- Life After Life- Kate Atkinson

Notes: My list was made up by looking at Wikipedia and (occaionally) Goodreads lists of books published within that year. If there are any mistakes blame them!

Literary Giveaway Blog Hop: The Memory Keeper’s Daughter

literarybloghop_novemberIt’s time for the Literary Giveaway Blog Hop again. I love this giveaway hop. A lot of the hops around are centred on YA fiction, so it’s great to see some giveaways of books which are more of the types of books I would like! The Literary Giveaway Blog Hop is hosted by Judith @ Leeswammes’ Blog. It’s one of my favourite blogs so I recommend you go and have a look even if you’re not taking part in the hop.

This time I’m giving away a copy of The Memory Keeper’s Daughter from my own shelves. This giveaway is only open in Europe, sorry.

I’m doing something a bit different this time. Everyone who enters gets one free entry. Then we’re going to play a game for extra entries.

Below are the first lines of five literary novels. For each book you can guess correctly I will add an extra entry. If you’re not entering but would like to play the game then you can leave your answers in comments which I will switch to moderated for the time of the hop.

Fill in your answers on the form below, you’re answers will only be visable to me.

Right her are the quotes, I have blanked out any words which would too easily give out the answer:

“It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen”

“Dr ****** had enjoyed a satisfactory day in which none of his patients had died or got any worse”

“The world begins anew with every birth, my father used to say. He forgot to say, with every death it ends”

“‘Marx has completely changed the way I view the world,’ declared the Paliéres boy this morning, although ordinarily he says nary a word to me”

“When he was thirteen my brother *** got his arm badly broken at the elbow”

Children’s Hour: Christmas Giveaway!

It’s almost Christmas whooop whoop, and of course that is the perfect time for a giveaway.

Earlier this year Random House sent me 2 beautiful copies of The Nutcracker. The old story was re-written by E.T.A Hoffmann and is accompanied by illustrations by Maurice Sendak. One copy for me to review, and one for my lovely readers.

I accepted the books with Children’s Hour in mind, however it’s not really suitable for the children I work with so I am planning to read it myself over Christmas and use it for my Children’s Hour post on Boxing Day. You can see the amazon page for this book by clicking the image above.

However as I wanted to make it a Christmas Giveaway I’m opening for entries today.

Unfortunately as I have to send the book myself (and it’s a rather large hardback) this giveaway is only open to those in Europe however I will accept other entries provided you are happy to pay for your own postage, just let me know in comments.

To enter just fill in the Rafflecopter by clicking the link below

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Literary Givaway Hop

This Giveaway is now closed. Thank you to everyone who entered and of course to Judith for hosting.

Hi guys. I’s been a while since I’ve done a giveaway and when I saw that Judith was hosting the literary giveaway blog hop again it seemed the perfect reason to do one.

The giveaway starts today and ends on Wednesday 27th June.

This time around I have 2 prizes up for grabs:

2) A copy of The War of Don Emmanuel’s Nether Parts in paperback (This was my favourite read last year- see my review)

Both giveaways are open internationally (but for the 2nd you need to be in a country to which The Book Depository delivers for free).

To enter just comment saying which prize you would like. You can enter for both if you wish. However if by some strange coincidence the same person is picked for both prizes I will only give them one (they can choose which) just to spread the love a bit wider!

Literary Giveaway Blog Hop back again

Judith is again running the Literary Giveaway Blog Hop on her blog Leeswammes’ Blog. This time it will take part from the 23rd to the 27th June.

The Literary Blog Hop is different because bloggers only give away books with ‘literary merit’. No romance, no Y.A and no urban fantasy. I like this because often I find giveaways fall into these genres, and they aren’t the genres I tend to read. I guess you can say it’s a breath of fresh air.

I think it’s been a while since I last did a giveaway too so I’m looking forward to this one.

If you want to join in sign-ups are open until 20th June here at Leeswammes’ Blog

More delays

Sorry guys I am ill so won’t be posting giveaway winners today, more delays I’m afraid, am on my way to bed.

But I can say only one person got the right answer (and a couple of close guesses) so if that’s you you have certainly won.

Scavenger Hunt GIVEAWAY

Yes I promised a giveaway for my blogiversary but I wanted to make it a bit more interesting than letting people who wanted to win just comment (or fill in the form, or whatever) so this giveaway will take the form of a scavenger hunt. I’ll explain the scavenger hunt rule in a moment, first lets do the giveaway details.

1) I will be giving away a copy on any book reviewed on this blog (lists by author, by title) to 2 entrants

2) The giveaway is open internationally so long as The Book Depository does free delivery to your country.

3) To enter just follow the Scavenger Hunt rules (listed below) and put your answer and information in the form below

4) Entries are open for a week from today (so until 6th September) 23:59 BST

The Scavenger Hunt rules

It’s pretty simple really. In 6 posts on this blog is a random word. Find all the words (by following the clues below) and join them together to create a sentence.

1) Words could be anywhere in the blog posts but will be bold and highlighted in blue like this

2) There are two possible sentences you can make from the words, I have one in mind but either is acceptable.

3) You must use all the words to be in with a chance of winning.

The clues.

1) What was my favourite read?

2) The title of this book relates to my blog

3) Lots of fandom here

4) Oh how exciting!

5) For the ones I love

6) Never impressed by these adaptations

Hint: Keeping reading my Blogiversary posts and you may find some of these clues easier

Any questions can be asked in comments or via twitter.
